As the days get longer, the outside temperature rises, the frequency of rain diminishes, the sun warms the ground, and bang, the Iris shoot up and bloom! It’s remarkable just how fast these beautiful flowers can grow. With the right conditions, these plants can grow from 6-inch blades of green leaves to dazzling softball-sized flowers on 24-inch stems, in just a week. We have bearded Iris, that we purchased at Schreiner’s Iris Garden in Salem OR. The Schreiner Family has been growing and breeding Iris since 1925 and have won numerous awards over the years for their varietals.
In non-COVID-19 times, you could visit their display gardens in the month of May and see the hundreds of different varieties in full bloom. We missed visiting the garden this year, but we are happy that our own plants did so well. We now have 12 different varietals planted in our yard.
